
When Ashley Albert, singer of the New York–based band the Jimmies, began making alt-pop for children, she noticed a vacuum at the genre’s center. There were plenty of whimsical songs for prekindergarteners and lots more heartbroken pop for tweens. But grade-schoolers seemed left in the lurch. So the Jimmies filled a gap, making bright indie-pop that’s knowingly silly, musically sophisticated, and innocent without being naive.
